WILDLIFE SHOT OF THE WEEK
Wildlife photographers willing to share one or more of their favorite photos of our local animals are encouraged to contact us at dicknewell@octrackers.net. We will post your photo for a few weeks and of course credit you as you wish. The photo should have been taken "recently" in Orange County.
The Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) is a member of the Procyonidae or raccoon family. Most members of this family are nocturnal and have banded tail markings. They are small omnivores and this one weighed no more than two pounds when it was photographed locally by Dr. Jutta Burger. We thank the Irvine Ranch Conservancy and Jutta for sharing this seldom seen resident of Orange County with us.
