WILDLIFE SHOT OF THE MONTH
This month's photo of a Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) in flight was contributed by wildlife photographer Steve Shinn. The zygodactyl tracks of this bird are occasionally found in the soft dirt around a squirrel's hole that the owl will commandeer for use as it's den. This species often feeds on field mice, beetles and other insects and they will try to set up housing near an area of abundance.
