ORANGE COUNTY TRACKERS
WILDLIFE SHOT OF THE MONTH
This month's photo of a Ridgeway's Rail (Rallus obsoletus) and its black-feathered chick was taken at the Bolsa Chica Reserve and was graciously contributed by wildlife photographer Mike Daugherty. This species was formerly known as the Light-footed Clapper Rail (Rallus longirostris). Subsequent photos showed the chick feeding on the crab that the adult had been carrying. This population is increasing as the local cord grass (Spartina foliosa) begins to flourish in the area.
