WILDLIFE SHOT OF THE WEEK
Wildlife photographers willing to share one or more of their favorite photos of our local animals are encouraged to contact us at dicknewell@octrackers.net. We will post your photo for a few weeks and of course credit you as you wish. The photo should have been taken "recently" in Orange County.
This Tarantula Hawk (Pepsis thisbe) was nectaring on milkweed when Don Millar took this photograph. We have two species locally and this is how to identify them: If it's antennae is orange it is P. mildei, if it is black it is P. thisbe. The antennae of the female are curled while those of the males are more straight.
